How a coffee shop idea became Aroma Abyssinia.
Aroma Abyssinia is a small-batch coffee company focused on Ethiopian coffee. We share where each coffee comes from, how it is processed, and what to expect in the cup.
The coffee became the focus.
The original plan was to create a comfortable place where people could read, talk, and stay awhile. As Selamawit studied extraction, altitude, and processing, she became more interested in what shaped each cup.

I first wanted to open a coffee shop. I imagined a reading corner, comfortable chairs, and a place where people could stay without feeling rushed. My husband, Asu, was the first person I told. He simply asked when we should start looking for a space.
As I thought more seriously about the shop, I became curious about the coffee itself. I began reading about extraction, altitude, and processing methods. Soon I was researching late at night and asking Asu to taste different cups with me.
That research kept bringing me back to Ethiopia, where coffee began. I wanted customers to know more than the name on the bag. I wanted them to understand the regions, the washing stations, and the work involved in growing and preparing the coffee.
Aroma Abyssinia grew from that idea. It became my way of sharing Ethiopian coffee and what I learned while building the business.
We roast each coffee to suit its flavor.
Roast time and development are adjusted for each coffee. The goal is a fresh, balanced cup that still tastes like the coffee itself.
